June 30th, 2016: [ July 6, 2016; 11:00 am to 1:30 pm. ] People of Portland, Vancouver, and neighboring communities will come together to remember the 47 victims lost in the tragic explosions of Summer 2013 when an oil train derailed in a small Canadian town: July 6th is the third anniversary of the oil train disaster in Lac-Megantic, Quebec. To honor the lives of the 47 people, we present a program from our community.

May 30th, 2016: [ July 7, 2016; ] EFSEC will continue its hearing about Tesoro Savage in Olympia on July 7, 2016. We will rally and attend the hearing to mark the three year anniversary of the Lac Megantic disaster, a tragic oil train derailment that caused 47 fatalities in a small Canadian town.

June 29th, 2016: [ June 29, 2016; 12:00 am; June 30, 2016; 12:00 am; July 11, 2016; 12:00 am; July 20, 2016; 12:00 am; ] After 16 long years, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released a Draft Cleanup Plan for Portland Harbor—the Willamette River’s most contaminated area and just upstream of the Columbia. Under the plan, the vast majority of pollutants will remain in the river, and some species of the river's fish will remain too toxic to eat forever. Now’s the time to tell the EPA to fix the draft cleanup plan and protect the Willamette and Columbia rivers from Portland Harbor pollution.

May 30th, 2016: [ June 13, 2016; July 18, 2016; ] The City of Vancouver is considering changes to its local zoning ordinance that would prohibit crude oil storage, handling, and refining. The proposed ban on crude oil terminals would send a powerful message to Governor Inslee that Vancouver opposes crude-by-rail. Let’s plan to attend and testify at the hearings 6/13 & 7/18 to support the City in protecting our waterfront, river, and local businesses.

June 30th, 2016: [ July 18, 2016; 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. ] On July 18, we will gather near City Hall in Esther Short Park at 6pm and march through the area to the Council’s hearing at 7pm. Once at the hearing, the City Council will take public testimony about the proposed changes to Vancouver’s industrial code and will likely vote on the crude oil terminal prohibition. By speaking up, we can show the City of Vancouver that the community supports their ban on crude oil terminals.

July 26th, 2016: [ July 29, 2016; 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. ] Rally to conclude month-long, trial-like hearing on the proposed Tesoro-Savage oil terminal in Vancouver, Washington this Friday, July 29, 2016, at 12:00pm. Concerned residents will gather to remind Washington’s Energy Facility Site Evaluation Council (EFSEC) and state decision makers of the broad community opposition to this project. During the rally, participants will voice concerns about the impacts that the enormous oil terminal would bring.
