2015 Volunteer Opportunities with Riverkeeper

Volunteers Needed!
Whether you can give a couple hours a week or a couple hours a year, we need your help! Columbia Riverkeeper works hard to protect and restore the Columbia, and we know you care about clean water. If you are willing to give a little of your time, you can help us to have an even bigger impact. A clean Columbia is priceless. If we each do a little, we will all gain a lot! We have many options for getting involved. Let us know if one of these opportunities works for you.

Adopt-a-River:
Join over 100 volunteers that make up one of the largest river monitoring programs in the Pacific Northwest. Adopt-a-River volunteers monitor habitat and wildlife, organize local riverside cleanups, plant native plants to clean up polluted stormwater, and track down sources of pollution and contamination. Adopt-a-River volunteers are the eyes and ears of the river and help ensure its health.

This year we are calling on you to join the effort! Adopt-a-River commitments can be completed on your own time, making it the perfect opportunity for families, groups, or individuals. Click here for more information: http://columbiariverkeeper.org/take-action/take-action-adopt-a-river/.

Current and interested volunteers are invited to join us for our free Adopt-a-River field training at Benson State Park on Saturday May 16. The workshop will cover habitat monitoring, plant and wildlife identification, and tools for dealing with river threats. For more details or to sign up contact Lorri@columbiariverkeeper.org or 541-399-0769.

E.coli Monitoring:
Do you worry if the river is safe for swimming? Do you like to swim, do wind sports, or even just splash around along the shore? Help us to monitor the river and warn river users when bacteria problems arise. We need volunteers to collect monthly water samples in the Columbia Gorge and drop them off at the Riverkeeper office for testing. The results will be available to the public via Swim Guide, and your effort will promote healthy water contact and help river users feel more confident in choosing safe swimming locations. Contact Lorri@columbiariverkeeper.org if you can help.

Love Your Columbia- Site Leaders:
Love Your Columbia is a one-day event on August 22, 2015 that features community river clean-ups, invasive species eradication, and restoration projects in local communities along the Columbia from British Columbia to the Estuary. Sign up to lead an event in your community!
Registered events can range from litter pick-ups or invasive weed pulls to educational outings and community riverside celebrations. Riverkeeper will support organizers with event promotion, media outreach, and volunteer recruitment. If you create an event, be sure to tell us about it! Click here to register your event.
