Thank you, 2016 here we come!

You helped us reach our $150,000 end-of-year goal. The threat of exporting dirty coal, oil, and gas through our communities is a defining issue of our time. In 2016, government agencies will either approve or deny the nation’s largest fossil fuel terminals, right in our backyards.

  • Coal export: Public hearings are scheduled for mid-2016 on the huge Millennium coal terminal proposed in Longview, WA, which would bring nine full coal trains through our towns every day.
  • Oil export: Governor Inslee will soon say “yes” or “no” to Tesoro’s proposal to build the nation’s largest oil-by-rail terminal in Vancouver, WA, and an oil refinery proposed in Longview—the first refinery built on the west coast in decades.
  • Gas export: The federal government will likely approve the “Oregon LNG” fracked gas export terminal in 2016, so we must convince Oregon to deny. The terminal would export a stunning volume of gas—more than the entire state of Oregon uses—to Asia, increasing fracking in the United States and Canada.

Because of you Riverkeeper has emerged as a leader in fighting dirty fossil fuel. Our actions matter now more than ever and it’s going to take people power to win: skilled organizers building leadership and power in local communities; attorneys enforcing environmental laws; and media specialists telling our story.

We are ready to win this fight, and together we can!
