Victory: Court says OK for County to Deny LNG Pipeline Permit; Rally in May Against LNG with RFK Jr.

In a significant, long-awaited decision, the Oregon Land Use Board of Appeals (LUBA) upheld Clatsop County’s decision denying the Oregon LNG pipeline. LUBA’s decision could spell the end for Oregon LNG because the company cannot build its proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) pipeline without the County’s approval. Read the press release.

LUBA’s decision comes after years of legal wrangling by the Oregon LNG company. In October 2013, the Clatsop County Board of Commissioners voted 5-0 to reject the Oregon LNG pipeline. The County Commissioners concluded that Oregon LNG’s proposed 41-mile long, high-pressure gas pipeline through Clatsop County violated the county’s land use laws on dozens of grounds. Oregon LNG claimed the Commissioners were biased, but the Oregon Court of Appeals rejected that argument. Today’s decision is a huge victory for the hundreds of Oregonians and Washingtonians who participated in the County’s hearings and who continue to stand firm against Oregon LNG.

On the heels of this important victory, join us for a rally to demonstrate statewide opposition to LNG exports. The featured speaker will be Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., President of the Waterkeeper Alliance. On Tuesday, May 26, 2015 we will send a clear message to Governor Brown, state agencies and elected officials that Pacific Northwest residents are united against LNG exports–both in Warrenton and in Coos Bay.
