LUBA’s decision comes after years of legal wrangling by the Oregon LNG company. In October 2013, the Clatsop County Board of Commissioners voted 5-0 to reject the Oregon LNG pipeline. The County Commissioners concluded that Oregon LNG’s proposed 41-mile long, high-pressure gas pipeline through Clatsop County violated the county’s land use laws on dozens of grounds. Oregon LNG claimed the Commissioners were biased, but the Oregon Court of Appeals rejected that argument. Today’s decision is a huge victory for the hundreds of Oregonians and Washingtonians who participated in the County’s hearings and who continue to stand firm against Oregon LNG.
On the heels of this important victory, join us for a rally to demonstrate statewide opposition to LNG exports. The featured speaker will be Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., President of the Waterkeeper Alliance. On Tuesday, May 26, 2015 we will send a clear message to Governor Brown, state agencies and elected officials that Pacific Northwest residents are united against LNG exports–both in Warrenton and in Coos Bay.

Looking ahead, we expect both the City of Warrenton and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to hold hearings this summer on Oregon LNG. Already, experts and agency reviewers have identified major flaws with Oregon LNG’s proposal. (Learn more here.)
