Emergency Measures Needed on Snake and Columbia Dams

Bonneville Dam fish ladders.

On Feb. 9 ,2016, Columbia Riverkeeper and partners sent a letter to the Army Corps of Engineers re: Request for emergency measures to reduce fish mortality caused by hot water discharges from Snake and Columbia dams. Our goal is to continue dialogue on this issue and ultimately for the Corps to take measures to prevent future fish kills of adult salmon and steelhead due to hot water.

Last year was the hottest on historical record to date, you may recall 96% of adult Snake River sockeye that reached Bonneville Dam in 2015 died without passing over Lower Granite Dam. If trends continue, this summer could have equal consequences.
