LNG Export Walk: Make a Statement with your Feet on Saturday, March 14 in Warrenton!

Does this look like an appropriate place for an LNG terminal? Come see for yourself and make a statement against closing our land and rivers to the public for a dangerous, destructive LNG terminal!

Join us Saturday, March 14, 2015 to see where Oregon LNG proposes to build a massive liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal. Our walk on public trails in Warrenton will give you a sense for the danger of placing an LNG mega-terminal in close proximity to schools, homes, businesses, and a busy marina. This is an area where people walk their dogs, ride their vehicles, view migrating birds, and fish in the adjacent Columbia River. During the walk we will discuss the conflict between Oregon LNG and the safety, health, and economic vitality of Warrenton and the Columbia River Estuary.

Warrenton’s trails highlight the beauty of the area. This walk makes a statement about the importance of protecting the public resources that are threatened by Oregon LNG. In coming weeks, the City of Warrenton will have to decide whether to change its local laws in order to remove public access to the area. Already, expert agencies have identified the importance of maintaining public access for recreational users on the Skipanon Peninsula as well as fishing boats and crabbers on the Skipanon and Columbia Rivers. (See more here). Oregon LNG’s project would permanently exclude the public from the proposed terminal site. Worse yet, LNG tankers could disrupt access for fishing and other boats entering and exiting the Skipanon River into the Columbia River.

We can make a statement against LNG by walking on the trails that we all own and enjoy! We look forward to a nice walk and a lively discussion – rain or shine! Please RSVP to Dan Serres (dan@columbiariverkeeper.org) if you plan to join!
