Patrolling the Columbia

We keep an eye on the Columbia. This includes everything from river cleanups to public records requests (to learn which oil companies are snooping around the Columbia). We also conduct regular pollution patrols in the Riverkeeper’s boat to sample water quality, discover and document illegal pollution, conduct outreach with river users, and learn from the big river. Here are photos from a glorious end-of-summer day in September:

Even in the industrial Portland stretch of the Columbia, Mt. Hood still watches over the river.

Tesoro wants to transform this dock to create the nation’s largest oil-by-rail terminal. I heard the cormorant on the left say he thinks it’s a bad idea. The others nodded and said, “yuck.”
