Concerned residents will gather at noon to remind Washington’s Energy Facility Site Evaluation Council (EFSEC) and state decision makers of the broad community opposition to this project. During the rally, participants will voice concerns about the impacts that the enormous oil terminal would bring.
Take a moment to tell the City of Portland to revive Portland’s Fossil Fuel Policy today. Every voice counts! In November 2015, the Portland City Council passed a historic Fossil Fuel Policy. Today, City staff are working to translate it into law. Unfortunately, the initial draft falls far short of the 2015 Fossil Fuel Resolution, allowing new fossil fuel terminals where the resolution called for a ban.
Tonight, the Vancouver City Council voted 7 to 0 to prohibit crude oil storage, handling, and refining facilities in Vancouver’s industrial zones. The vote is a historic step to prevent new proposals like the current Tesoro Savage and NuStar oil terminal proposals, which together would bring almost 140 million barrels of crude oil per year through Northwest communities. A crowd of over 150 turned out to support this step by the City – overflowing the council chambers.
