Hood River Coal Forum a Success

Over 125 people packed the room to attend the Coal Hard Truth forum in Hood River on November 8.  Thanks to all who participated, especially those who brought delicious deserts for the social hour.  Speakers included a local vineyard owner, a health professional, and representatives from the Sierra Club, Columbia Riverkeeper, and Friends of the Columbia Gorge, as well as a lively audience conversation.  The forum discussed how exporting coal from the lower Columbia River and Puget Sound would harm local communities.  Residents in the Gorge were particularly concerned about increased coal train traffic, dust from coal, and popular recreation and fishing sites being blocked.

Sierra Club's Heather Kryczka did a terrific job organizing the event.  Riverkeeper, Sierra Club, and our Power Past Coal coalition are holding another Coal Hard Truth forum in Portland on November 14th.  We expect a big crowd.  Bring your friends!
